How Reiki Helps
The first time I received reiki was at the end of an invigorating yoga class. The instructor lightly walked behind my mat; I heard the jingle of her bracelets, I smelled the essential oil she wore, and then she placed her hands on my head. A hot sensation rushed over me from the crown of my head down to my toes. To be frank, I felt stoned. It was almost as if she was putting a spell on me, which I absolutely would embrace, but definitely didn’t expect. I am a skeptical and analytical person, but even if this was the placebo effect I was successfully persuaded. The rest of the evening I felt waves of subtle vibration flow through my body which I now know was my life force energy or ki. It’s hard to describe if you haven’t felt it for yourself and I also want to acknowledge that not every Reiki experience is like this. You will most definitely have your own relationship with Reiki and sometimes feel nothing at all, but trust that something is still buzzing beneath the layers.
I was Reiki attuned in 2016 and felt the energetic balance come into focus. There was also a deep sense of gratitude for the gift of giving this special type of support to others and myself. I offer Reiki in every class that allows time for it. During the portion of the pandemic when all classes were virtual, I appreciated how important Reiki was in my routine and missed offering it to my students. When teachers came back into the studios under strict pandemic protocols, many students discreetly asked me if I would give them Reiki as long as I didn’t tell anyone, haha! This ancient form of healing is needed. One of my students said to me, “when you laid your hands on my head, I saw my arms around my children with a warm blanket wrapped around us while tears streamed down my cheeks.” This is something of the heart. This is something real.
I use Reiki in my life daily by placing my hands over my heart before bed or in the morning imagining that I have hundreds of little antennae or sensors lining my palms. Each one of these sensors is sending out vital life force energy for natural self-healing. When I give myself Reiki, it is an intimate moment that reminds me of my own humanity and my own power in directing my well-being. I would be honored to offer you a session of your own so that you, too, can drop into a sense of peace and stability whether it is around an injury, a life challenge, or a need for connection. Reiki will be here when you need it.
